Certified Trauma Informed Stabilization Treatment (TIST) Therapist

Virginia Carr, MSW, LSWVirginia (she/her) works with clients holistically by inviting mind, body, and spirit into the therapeutic process. By integrating a body-based approach with "parts work," Virginia is uniquely positioned to support folks who have experienced trauma. Clients who work with Virginia will benefit from the ways in which she integrates traditional talk therapy with her expertise in somatic approaches in her sessions.

Virginia’s eclectic style enables her to work both with a client’s narrative therapeutically while also addressing how trauma lives in the body and impacts the ways in which we relate to ourselves and others. She combines Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (e.g., work with the wisdom of the body while creating safety through regulating the nervous system), Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (e.g., to foster inner transformation by connecting with core emotions) and Trauma Informed Stabilization Treatment (e.g., parts work combined with neuroscience for the treatment of complex trauma) to tailor a unique approach for each client.

Virginia enjoys helping clients who feel chronically stressed or overwhelmed begin to access relief and make room for joy. Individuals who are told that they are "too much" or “too emotional” are encouraged to show up as their authentic selves in Virginia’s office. Clients who are curious about seeking deeper connection to themselves find relief in the ways in which Virginia helps them make sense of their inner experience. She considers it an honor to help guide clients begin to explore the world from a more curious, confident, and embodied self.

In terms of Virginia’s positionality and lens, she is a straight, white, Spanish speaking, sensitive cisgender woman. She recognizes the ways in which environmental, socioeconomic, and cultural influences are inextricably linked with mental health. Committed to her own healing work, Virginia offers the presence of someone who understands what an investment it is in oneself to dedicate the time, energy, and financial resources to therapy.
