Elan CohenDr. Cohen is a licensed psychologist with several years of experience providing mental health services and conducting psychotherapy outcome research at the University of Pennsylvania. He completed his pre-doctoral internship and postdoctoral fellow at Penn’s Counseling and Psychological Services Center before working several years at the Center as a Psychologist and Coordinator of Referral Services. Dr. Cohen specializes in the counseling of gay, lesbian, and bisexual individuals, as well as eating disorders and body image concerns, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, and couples counseling. His approach to psychotherapy is multidimensional, including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Humanistic, Psychodynamic, and Adlerian. Dr. Cohen’s research has been published in peer-reviewed journals and he has presented numerous empirical studies at professional conferences. The presentations were particularly centered around the efficacy of psychotherapy and its correlates. Additionally, Dr. Cohen taught several courses at Penn, including Psychopathology, Multicultural Psychology and Psychology of Personal Growth. Dr. Cohen was awarded several research grants and was honored to receive several academic awards, including Penn’s prestigious 2003 Models of Excellence Award for his interventions during the 9/11 tragedy.
